McCreless Play House

The Library had a specific requirement for a distinct, compact area that would cater exclusively to their youngest patrons - children up to five years old. They sought a space that was not only safe and engaging, but also educational, stimulating the little ones' curiosity and creativity.

In response to this need, I proposed an innovative design concept: a space shaped like a house, evoking a sense of familiarity and comfort, filled with two different sets of interactive toys that would cater to the diverse interests of these young minds.

The first proposed design was a vibrant, dynamic setting that included colorful pipes. The pipes were designed to encourage color recognition and fine motor skill development, as children would be tasked to throw balls matching the colors of the pipes. Further enhancing the fun, a puppet theatre was proposed to spark their imagination and storytelling skills, alongside a hopscotch layout for physical activity and number recognition.

The second design option still incorporated the puppet theatre, recognizing the value of imaginative play, but introduced a couple of new, engaging elements. A giant tic-tac-toe game was included to promote cognitive development and strategic thinking, even at a young age. Additionally, real-sized animal footprints were integrated into the floor design. This fun feature offered a visual comparison between the children's feet and those of various animals, fostering an early interest in the natural world and promoting physical awareness.

After careful consideration, the Library chose to proceed with the second design option. They appreciated the blend of imaginative, cognitive, and physical activities that this concept offered. This decision reflected their commitment to creating an engaging, educational space that would not only entertain their youngest visitors but also foster their development and love for learning.

The EMD interactives is the main contractor of the project.
